MAKING A LIFE WORTHY.

                                                   MAKING A LIFE WORTHY

My profession is my pride . When you know you have a responsibility to make lives better you need to do your job with your heart . Being a Mental Health Professional has its own rewards  and a fair share of challenges . Sharing a recent  incident of reward .

                                       Yesterday @ 2100hrs  @ Cafe at Chandigarh

As I sat having my dinner at a cafe yesterday I saw a gentleman walking towards me . As a habit or as a side effect of my profession  I quickly analysed him and made my check list of his state of mind , not knowing that I would actually be having a conversation with him.

He stopped at my table and asked me if I was who I am . Answering his question in an affirmative and a  more closer look at him had my grey cells recollect  both his name and his sons name .

                                                          The Story, The Past

His son was a handsome, young , regular this generation  medical college student. He had his share of problems and he was assumed to be a spoilt brat by the administration.

With supplementary in many subjects, a girl friend , keen interest in sports and a beard he was labelled a FAILURE . How many of us passed with flying colors by the way , anything wrong in having a girl friend and I wish Einstein had set a better example in grooming . Infact I even recollect how  his father panicked over his new found passion, his unshaven beard.

He was regularly counseled by me  and I always saw a great guy in him  with a hidden potential which he kept nicely tucked as nobody believed  in him . I had  done more sessions for his father than for the son  and time passed and I relocated to a new city and started my new journey.

The past came back in a flash when  with folded hands  the father of that son who had given up hope of seeing his son pass MBBS said , "You are the reason  and  the pillar of my son". Yes, it gets overwhelming and a bit embarrassing to get compliments in a public space as he wouldn't stop until I accepted the reward of gratitude.

                                                       The Story , The Present

He is a Doctor today  and is  pursuing his Post graduation from a reputed college. I forgot to ask if he still sports a beard .

And then  I dug  back into my apple pie with the thoughts of the next young man I have to save .

( The post is not for self  praise, it is for all to understand that  giving up on yourself or on your loved ones in their times of difficulty is not an option . Do not judge a person on their appearances or on their choices of relationships . Understanding another person without being judgmental is a skill.
Do you possess it ? )
